From Tragedy to Triumph

The story of coffee in Nantou is one of transformation. Following the devastating “921” earthquake of 1999, the local government encouraged the cultivation of coffee to replace traditional crops that had caused significant soil erosion and increased the risk of landslides. This shift not only aimed to improve sustainability but also to restore the land's ecological balance.

The Birth of LUZ Coffee Farm

The owner of LUZ Coffee Farm, previously engaged in an unrelated industry, felt a calling to contribute to the ecological rehabilitation of his homeland. In the early 2000s, he purchased land and planted coffee trees, beginning production a decade later. His dedication and hard work paid off, as his coffee quickly gained fame for its exceptional quality.

LUZ Coffee Farm is renowned for its Arabica Bourbon beans, cultivated with meticulous care and processed using the honey wash method. This method enhances the beans' natural sweetness and complexity, resulting in a coffee that is rich in flavour and character. The farm's commitment to sustainability and quality has been recognised in numerous local competitions, where blind tastings consistently confirm the superior taste of their coffee.
